Captain America: The First Avenger | Comic Series | The International Patriots

Since this is my first review ever (yay!), I wanted to start with not one, not two, but three figures! It's the Captain America: The First Avenger Comic Series The International Patriots! I got this set at Toy Kingdom in the Mall of Asia, in case you're wondering. I see around the internet that this was a K-Mart Exclusive. I guess that was only applicable in the US, since I got this at Toy Kingdom.

The International Patriots

Anyway, let's start with the review! :D

Packaging

Front
Packaging has always been one of Hasbro's strong suits, so it doesn't come as a surprise that the front of the packaging looks good, with the movie Cap on the lower-left corner, the Captain America movie logo at the bottom, and the Avengers Assemble logo at the upper-right corner (sorry for the price sticker residue XD). At the background, there's a white grunge texture and crests based on the flags of the patriots' countries-- United Kingdom, United States of America, and Russia (Soviet Union).

Back
At the back, there is a picture of the figures with their weapons, the description, and pictures of some of the other toys in the toy line.
Description

The description reads "These are legendary men-- men forged from the toughest stuff this world has to offer. They are heroes to their people and to the world. And though they may be distinct in personality and approach, they are each bound together by a universal quest for justice."

Figures

So here we have the three figures! Captain Britain, Captain America, and the Red Guardian! :D

Front
Back
All of the figures have peg holes at the back. It makes sense for Cap and the Red Guardian because their shields have a clip and a peg. Though I really don't know what Captain Britain needs a peg hole for (Hahahaha XD).

Captain Britain

Captain Britain (a.k.a. Brian Braddock) and Excalibur
Captain Britain comes with Excalibur, which was painted silver on the hilt. Captain Britain's look was based on Captain Britain and MI13. The paint on the figure is generally good-- the buckles are painted well, there is minimal bleeding of colors-- except for the eyes. The eyes were just dabs of white paint-- no pupils, just plain white paint. It gives you the impression of someone who's possessed or undergoing seizure (LOL XD).

Articulation
Captain Britain has the standard Captain America movie figure articulation, with one great addition-- ROCKER JOINTS! You can do all the crazy wide-stance poses and still be able to balance the figure on its own.

The hip joint can be a pain sometimes. You have to fidget around with it before you can make the leg move forward, sideward, etc. And the joints are so stiff that they limit articulation.

Nevertheless, among the three in the set, I think he has the best articulation.
No, he's not amputated

Captain America

Captain America (a.k.a. Steve Rogers) and his shield
Captain America comes with his iconic circular shield. I like how the shield was painted-- clean and (almost) perfect. I also like the sculpt, especially the face and the scales on the upper body. Though there are some quality issues in the paint applications, it is not the worst Hasbro has ever come up with. Cap's eyes are actually done well, unlike Captain Britain's.

Articulation
This is a great figure but it is not without its flaws. Though the articulation is not downright bad, is it too much to ask for a WRIST SWIVEL?! Seriously, way to ruin an otherwise awesome figure Hasbro! (But griping about a missing wrist swivel seems so silly now since we've seen the likes of the Iron Man 3 Assemblers Figures-- hands-down the worst !@#$%^& thing Hasbro has ever produced LOL!)

Red Guardian

Red Guardian (a.k.a. Nikolai Krylenko) and his shield
Just like Captain America, the Red Guardian comes with his shield. Though his shield was all silver in the comic books, I think they decided to use red to better bring out the detail. But they could've used silver then added a black wash on the crest, but no, Hasbro decided to go with this. Oh well. The sculpt, I think, wasn't made specially for the Red Guardian (except for the head, I guess). For example, the star on his chest was just painted on, unlike Cap's where the star was part of the sculpt. The paint overall is good, with some minor bleeding and slops here and there. It bothers me that the belt is skewed to the right and is glued a little too high than I would've liked. But, nah, those are just trivial details. I'm just being picky hahahaha.

Articulation
The Red Guardian shares the same articulation with Cap. So that means it is also missing a swivel wrist, which would've made this good figure even better. Oh well, you can't get everything.

"Ahh! I can't move my wrist!"

Comparison Shots

Captain Britain

With the single-carded Captain Britain from the Captain America: The First Avenger toy line
Here's Captain Britain with another Captain Britain from the Captain America: The First Avenger toy line. The Captain Britain on the left sports a different costume and has metallic paint, compared to the matte paint of the one on the right. The Excalibur on the left is painted gold on the hilt, while the one on the right is painted silver.

Captain America

With the Avengers Captain America and the First Avenger Captain America
This is Captain America with two more Captains America-- one from the Avengers movie, and the other from The First Avenger movie. It's really difficult to compare a comic figure to movie figures because not only are they from different universes, they are also wearing different costumes-- Modern-Classic-WWII. It really comes down to personal preference, but I think they are great figures of their kind.

Red Guardian

With fellow Russian, Ivan "Whiplash" Vanko
I don't have another Red Guardian figure (I don't think they released another, at least in 3.75" scale), so here he is beside a fellow (badass) Russian, Ivan "Whiplash" Vanko!

With Guardsman from the Iron Man 2 toy line
Just picked up a random figure to pose beside the Red Guardian (LOL!).

Conclusion

Overall, this is a great set. You get a never-before-released Red Guardian and Captain Britain. You'll also get a classic Captain America, but this might not be something you'd be after since Hasbro has released plenty Caps. Is this worth picking up? Yes, especially if you're a Captain Britain or Red Guardian fan, or if you're collecting patriot figures like Guardian, Sunfire, etc. Also, if you wanted a Red Guardian, this is your chance to get it :D

Hope you enjoyed my first review, and happy collecting! :D
